ROLE
UI/UX Designer
Problem
Traditional agency portfolios often feel like static catalogs. The challenge for SLICE (an LA-based entertainment marketing agency) was to create a digital experience that mirrors their "disruptive" creative work. The site needed to feel less like a website and more like an immersive gallery that captures the high-energy, high-contrast nature of the entertainment industry.
Process
1) Kinetic Design Research: I studied the visual language of fashion and entertainment (high-grain photography, neon accents, and brutalist layouts) to establish a "high-end/underground" aesthetic.
2) Layered UX Mapping: Instead of a traditional flat scroll, I conceptualized a depth-based UI. This involved planning how layers (Artwork, About, and Case Studies) would interact visually, creating a sense of 3D space on a 2D screen.
3) Typography & Color Stress-Testing: I paired a technical, stencil-like neon yellow font with black-and-white high-contrast imagery. This required rigorous testing to ensure that the neon accents remained accessible and legible without causing eye strain.
4) Device-Agnostic Interaction: I designed the interface to be "touch-first" and "gesture-ready," ensuring the layered navigation felt as fluid on a mobile screen as it does on a desktop with a mouse.
Solution
1) Layered Depth Interface: Developed a "stacked" UI where content cards float and overlap. This creates a tactile, physical feeling that encourages users to "pull" content forward, significantly increasing session time.
2) "Neon-Glow" Visual System: Used a specialized color palette (#E1FF00 / Neon Yellow) against a deep charcoal backdrop. This isn't just for style; it creates a high-visual-hierarchy that directs the eye immediately to the brand name and the specific "Artwork" being showcased.
3) Immersive Content Windows: Rather than small thumbnails, I used full-bleed, high-energy imagery (like the vibrant pink/green fashion shot). This forces the agency’s work to be the hero, using minimal text to let the creative output speak for itself.
4) Abstract Navigation: Replaced standard headers with a minimalist, icon-driven menu. This declutters the workspace, ensuring that the agency's work is never obscured by UI "noise."
5) 3D Product Staging: For the final presentation, I utilized custom 3D mockups - placing the laptops on rugged, floating rocks - to reinforce the brand’s theme of "Solid but Edgy" and "Natural but Tech-Forward."
Result
1) Brand Authority: The site successfully positions the agency as a premium, "next-gen" partner for major brands like Netflix (as seen in the copy).
2) Visual Distinction: The unconventional layout differentiates the agency from 99% of competitors who use standard grid-based templates.
3) Interactive Engagement: The "hover and reveal" layered structure creates a "gamified" browsing experience that leads to higher click-through rates on case studies.
